Ivanna Diaz

Ivanna Diaz is an architect and ceramist living in Monguí, Boyacá. Originally from Ibagué, Tolima, she has since relocated to both Bogotá and Boyacá, constantly seeking new inspirations and experiences. Her nomadic lifestyle has shaped her artistic approach, prompting her to embrace minimal tools and locally sourced materials to create wherever she may be. Drawing inspiration from prominent designers and architects, Ivanna's artistic journey has been greatly influenced by visionaries like Zaha Hadid, Jono Smart and Florian Gadsby.

As an entrepreneur, Ivanna established her own interior design studio called Terra Rossa that focuses on landscaping, plants, and nature. It is her deep affinity for the natural world that has ignited her passion for creating ceramics. She views the creation of handmade pieces that demand time and dedication as a powerful act of protest against a system that prioritizes quantity over quality.

Since moving to Boyacá, Ivanna was determined to continue her craft in ceramics. She met Don Jaime, a renowned ceramicist in Monguí. Don Jaime's passion for ceramics is deeply rooted in his family's heritage. His father left an enduring legacy in Monguí for playing a significant role in the construction of the second tower of the historic Monguí church, a structure that has stood for over four centuries. Due to the pandemic and his advancing age, Don Jaime has since retired from the art of ceramics. However, Ivanna and Don Jaime struck an agreement: to exchange their respective techniques and knowledge. Don Jaime transformed a section of his home into a small workshop, where the two artisans could engage in a collaborative learning experience. This unique bond fosters the passing down of wisdom and the preservation of artisanal techniques between generations.

Ivanna recognizes that being an independent artisan demands patience, perseverance, and adeptness at navigating obstacles. It is a continuous journey of growth, self-discovery, and the ability to remain steadfast in one's artistic vision while overcoming challenges along the way.
